Why Are Wooden Holds Better Than Plastic Ones?
Why are wooden climbing holds better than classic polyurethane ones?
Wooden climbing holds are an ecological alternative to plastic holds, they are gentle on your finger skin, more sustainable, and have a timeless design. In this article, we'll show you why wooden holds are a great choice for your home climbing wall and how they'll help you train more often and more efficiently.
Advantages of wooden holds
Gentle on your finger skin
Thanks to the absence of sanding, you can train longer and regularly without unpleasantly worn fingers. Moreover, you can climb well on wooden holds even with worn fingers – they're simply ideal training holds for everyday home bouldering.
Ecological and local
We simply take a piece of dried wood, process it, drill a few holes, drop some glue under the screw washer, and it's done. Unlike the production of polyurethane holds (where chemicals and respirators are used), our workshop smells of wood and freshly brewed coffee :). We source the wood from a sawmill here in the Jizera Mountains, Czech Republic – so the journey from tree to your wall is really short.

Natural design
This might be subjective, but we simply enjoy the minimalism of wood. Each piece is original, you won't find two identical pieces. Try it and you'll see that you won't want plastic anymore.
Frequently asked questions about wooden holds
Do wooden holds slip more than plastic ones?
A little yes, but you can get used to it quickly. On the contrary, it prepares you excellently for real conditions outside on the rocks. And the benefit of less worn fingers is worth it!
How long do they last?
Our wooden holds will last you for many years. They won't get crushed or worn out. When you get them dirty, just take them off, wipe them with a wet cloth, and they're like new. You can also sand them lightly – and you have practically new pieces. However, use them in dry conditions, ideally indoors. Wooden holds are perfect for home climbing training, but they've also proven themselves on busy public walls, such as Jungle Letňany, Hangár Ostrava, or Boulder Point Liberec. People climb on them at public gyms in Slovakia, Italy, Germany, Spain, or Luxembourg, and on home walls of climbers from more than 30 countries worldwide.
Do wooden holds have any disadvantages at all?
They slip a little and have a natural "uniform" color – so you can't set routes by hold colors. But you can easily solve this with colored stickers or tags under the holds. We also don't recommend using them outdoors or in humid environments.
