Try to exchange crimps for pinches

Try to exchange crimps for pinches!

by Janča Švecová

My favorite training on the wall? Definitely climbing with a bunch of friends on some random boulder we made up and seeing who can climb it first.

Since I started working with Lama Holds and got some holds from their portfolio, I've included some pinches as well. It turned out to be so challenging to climb on them because all I was used to were crimps, crimps, and more crimps. But to create truly challenging boulders, you need to come up with some spicy moves and holds that really test you.

As time passed, and after spending hours and hours training on those pinches, we realized just how beneficial they are for training, and we fell in love with climbing on them. I can totally see how it's reflected in my climbing. I feel much stronger when it comes to squeezing hard on certain holds, and it almost feels like I've developed extra muscles in my palms that make me stronger while climbing.

Currently, our training wall is covered with all kinds of pinches, and I would definitely recommend incorporating them into your training as well.

You'll be surprised at how weak you feel on them at first, but that's the beauty of it, right? Imagine how much better you'll get once you break through and feel confident on pinches.

It's such a game-changer and so much fun!

Climbing training with pinches

I'm already pretty good friends with most of the pinches, but the ones that barely fit into my hand are still a struggle—you know, the super wide ones. I fight them at least once in every boulder session, wishing and hoping that one day I'll finally be able to master them.
